Thankful.

As some of you have probably heard me mention before, I used to write only in pencil. As a perfectionist, I could not handle writing in pen. If I made a mistake, that meant starting all over; whereas, with a pencil, I could just erase. Well, a couple years ago, my mom brought me home this:
Ever since this addition to my supplies, my world has changed. I have now almost 100% moved on to using pens. In fact, I have found that writing with a pen (especially while doing schoolwork) puts less strain on my hand. Plus, it leaves a more permanent mark. But, at the same time, that mark can be wited-out, if necessary. Consequently, I am very thankful for this tool.

In fact, I was just doing some statistics homework (and making mistakes) and this little bugger saved my paper.

Thanks, mom.

History

Aw, look at that sweet pumpkin face!

22 years after this picture was taken, that little boy married me! He is not so little anymore. However, he still does make that face sometimes.

Crafty.

Sometimes I get an itsy-bitsy bit jealous when I read about how crafty and resourceful all my married friends have become. Once Faith married off, she became an amazing quilter and cook. Marie sews a wide array of amazing articles, and Christy makes candles. My other sister draws and paints handmade cards. Also, upon request, she can paint amazing canvases to hang in your home! Once Anna married off, her hidden talents remained hidden. Instead of blooming into an amazing artist or handy-woman, I settle for buying my curtains instead of making them, and contributing nothing to my little household made by me. But, that is okay. Maybe my secret talent is to be the customer for everyone else!

On that note, I would really like a handmade tree-skirt for my Christmas tree to use for years to come.

Also, I would like a wooden coat hanger/bench for my entryway. Are there any wood crafters out there?

Oh, oh, and I wouldn't mind another colorful table runner too.

Ok, that is all (for now). Meanwhile, I will try to come up with some sort of talent that will earn me some $$$ so that I can pay for it all.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I am thankful for my big family - Dad, Mom, Jared, Faith, Josh, Sarah, Andrew, Luke and Hope.

It's a date.

The other night, my husband took me out on a date! The weather forecast predicted 80% chance of rain; but, we went with the 20%. The underdog won. Instead of getting rained out, we had a perfectly cool evening with a beautiful view of some amazing looking clouds. The "chance" of rain just added a little bit of excitement to the evening, especially since our table was located outdoors. The hostess told us that we would have an hour and forty-five minute wait. And, since we had nothing better to do, we decided to wait and enjoy each others company. Well, the "hour and forty-five minutes" flew by - it turned out to be only a thirty minute wait! Rejoicing at our good fortune, we sat down in a cheery mood. The evening continued to go our way as we both ordered delicious meals and gobbled them up. Then, we strolled down the boardwalk eating a small bucket of Fisher's caramel popcorn, commenting on the array of people going past. And to top off the evening, we walked down a few streets to see one of Andrew's old friends, who was bar tending at "Wild Bill's," which turned out to be an ironic name choice since it was anything but "wild." I have to admit that I was somewhat curious because I have never been to a bar. However, what a disappointment - no wild fights, loud music, or scantily clad women. Just a couple of old men staring at the game on TV drinking away the night. Poor souls. I was very thankful to be next to the love of my life and be able to share the evening with him. It was quite the treat. I'm looking forward to next time. (-:
Andrew wanted to take my picture and I asked him why.
"...because you look so beautiful."
Aw, you make me feel beautiful, Andrew Philip. (-:

I just received my professional wedding pictures today. I was excited to look through them and see what I had missed of the day. From when I was a child until the day I got married, I dreamt of being the gorgeous bride dressed in white (or ivory in this case). However, I am very critical of myself and disliked all the pictures of my "bad" side. Nevertheless, everyone else looks terrific - including my handsome husband.

This one of Mason is absolutely adorable:

My thoughtful, sweet husband brought me home an arrangement of flowers. It is always such a treat being given flowers. They were originally displayed in a big vase all together. However, desiring to brighten up multiple rooms, I split the bunch up into two vases. So, now I can look at them in the kitchen and the living room! I absolutely love the bright colors - great choice, Andrew!

And so that you do not feel left out, please enjoy the flowers with me:

Status change: Married.

Since I last "blogged," quite a few changes have taken place. First of all, I'm married. On May 29, 2011, Andrew and I said "I do" in front of 200 and some people. I can barely remember specifics - the weeks and months leading up to that day were such a whirl wind of activity. Once our wedding day arrived, it seemed ridiculous that it was over in just a few hours. However, that was it. A rushed, beautiful wedding day. But, time didn't stop flying then. After spending a week in Jamaica for our honeymoon followed by two weeks in Florida for Andrew's reserve duty, we came back in time to help Sarah and Josh prepare for their big day. Another week of wedding preparation led to July 9, 2011, when Josh and Sarah entered marital bliss. Now they are back from their honeymoon packing to move. Oh, and Faith & Jared just celebrated their 2nd anniversary.

After these months of madness, I'm finally getting a chance to look at pictures for the FIRST TIME. It is bittersweet looking at the hundreds of photographs I snapped because they're good memories, but memories... past. gone. never happening again.

When did we all grow up and get old enough to get married!!!? When did Hope become a teenager instead of that fuzzy headed baby?

Sarah & Peter visited us our wedding weekend and we took them boating. The following are a few pictures from the day:

Happenings.

In my previous post, I mentioned how shoots of grass were popping up in our yard. Well, look at it now:
It was getting a little too long. In fact, our neighbor came and cut it for us. The same neighbor also gave us a house warming gift. See the below fern. Since then, we have bought dwarf trees, lantana, marigolds, begonia, and other plants that require watering, sun & soil. Andrew and I had a good ole' time planting them. We hope they live.

To our delight, our master bedroom furniture arrived a few weeks ago. Below are three pictures of the bedroom completely furnished. We bought the rugs at Bed, Bath & Beyond and the furniture was a floor set at Johnny Janosik. It had a few dents and scratches. However, that is bound to happen anyway. So, it didn't matter to us!

The other day, we hung a few pictures. I'm especially excited about the three I hung in the kitchen. The white frames are from Ikea and I adore how they compliment the white trim. The first picture is of a sunset we witnessed one night at Roaring Point, the second one is of the "suicidal duck" in front of Niagara Falls, and the third one is of the sunset and bridge in New York the night Andrew proposed to me. Dear to my heart. Also, please note the rug in front of the sink - Aunt Suzanne gave that to me as a wedding gift after I had eyed it in a store while shopping with her. How surprising and sweet!

And here is our office:

And this is me and my chaperone...

She is extremely excited about our new home.

Who would have thought?

Before

After

The other day, Andrew and I were driving up to our house to drop off some of his clothes and things. As we rounded the bend into our neighborhood, I exclaimed, "GRASS!!!" Andrew, startled, took a look and smiled broadly. We had lift-off. Our grass was finally sprouting - tiny blades were sticking up out of the crusty soil here and there. Our yard looked like it had a bit of a beard growing. We had waited for several weeks to see even the smallest hint of growth and it came in a split second. AND the green weed has progressively thickened over the past two days. Who would have thought that I would be so thrilled to see grass grow?

***Just so that there is no misunderstanding (because you never know how someone might read what I've written) - I am not moving into the house until we're married. However, I often go to the house with Andrew AND a chaperone to help out with miscellaneous things.

Our house!

Welcome to OUR house! There isn't any grass growing yet. So, our front yard is a bit of a mud pit. However, we hope to see green stalks popping up shortly and possibly some shrubbery getting added to this delightful yard.

Walk on up our sidewalk, enter the front door (ring the doorbell if you want) and...

You'll see our living room. Straight ahead is our...

kitchen! And it's yellow. Beautiful, bright yellow with black appliances. I absolutely adore it.

Down the hall, first door on the right is where YOU will stay if you come visit. It's a pale green room which I hope to decorate in the most inviting way possible. So, if you have anything you'd like to see in your guest bedroom, please tell.

Immediately across from your guest bedroom is the guest bathroom. It is stocked with Dove soap, soft towels, and other bathroom necessities for your convenience.

While you are snug as a bug in your guest bedroom, your hosts will be staying in the master bedroom, which is the last door on the right. My closet is the bigger one.

Last, but not least, is our office - which is painted half in red and has chair molding running along the edge (compliments of my dad). However, this picture was taken while it was still being painted, so, unfortunately, you don't get to see the end product (yet).

In fact, all of these pictures were taken some time ago. As of today, the house looks much more like a lived in home. Andrew spent his first night there last night. Mostly all the rooms are now furnished. And we put up two blinds today to take care of any peeping toms.

That is that.
